When the BMW G310R debuted, we knew that the Germans would use its small-displacement machine as a platform for other models.
There have been hints that one of those models could be a 300cc-ish adventure bike, and now we get out first glimpse of the so-called BMW G310GS, thanks to Italian magazine Motociclismo.
It’s not clear if we’ll see the 2017 BMW G310GS at this week’s INTERMOT show, or if BMW Motorrad will save the bike for November’s EICMA show, in Italy. Either scenario is equally plausible, and this is something we’ve already covered here at Asphalt & Rubber.
What we do know is that the BMW G310GS will add a unique entry point into BMW’s adventure line, while giving new riders an approachable machine that’s beyond the typical street bike offering.
We will also be curious to see how the G310GS fills the void for more experienced riders, who want smaller ADV bikes that can handle more rugged terrain than their 500+ lbs brethren.
At 349 lbs wet, and with 34hp of peak power on the street bike model, this adventure-tourer could tick some of the right boxes for the adventure-touring crowd, while still providing more on-road comfort than an enduro.
Still, we imagine the 2017 BMW G310GS’s strongest trait will be its cost, with the Bavarian brand using the G310 platform as a strong point for value-oriented buyers.
We’ll bring you more photos and details when this bike debuts. Until then, we suggest checking out Motociclismo’s full gallery of this machine caught testing.
