Bimota has a number of things to debut at next week’s EICMA show, the biggest being the company’s latest model: the Bimota Tesi 3D RaceCafe.
The concept seems pretty simple, take the hub-center steering design of the Bimota Tesi 3D, and style it to look like the café racer of the future – if that oxymoron makes sense to you.
The above image is the teaser for the Bimota Tesi 3D RaceCafe, which shows a more traditional headlamp on the futuristic machine. Other changes include the use of Ducati’s air-cooled 803cc v-twin engine, which is currently powering the Ducati Scrambler line.
We would expect other styling cues that will appeal to the flannel and beard crowd to be the order de jour, which should make for an interesting model from Bimota, in the Chinese fortune cookie sense of the word.
This is because it is interesting to see Bimota breaking away from its sport bike roots, and making a bike that will draw from the market’s current hipster-appeasement. Will it payoff for Bimota or not? That’s the big question.
We do know that the Bimota brand will be returning back to its Ducati engine roots, after the dismal success of the Bimota BB3 and its BMW S1000RR power plant.
We doubt the BB3’s engine was to blame for the bike’s failure, as the reception to the Bimota BB3’s aesthetics was lukewarm at best…this coming from a brand that is known to wow the crowds with its radical but lurid motorcycle designs.
We shall see if the Bimota Tesi 3D RaceCafe brings back that mojo. Fortuantely, we will only have to wait a week to see.
