With the news that Bologna is showing its new lightweight project, the Ducati 1299 Superleggera to would-be owners, it shouldn’t surprise us then to see information leaking out about the superbike.
Unsurpsingly then, some of the component images and details have leaked out from the Project 1408 microsite, posted to forums by invited guests.
These leaked details give us a glimpse as to how Borgo Panigale is going to improve upon its namesake even further, namely through the use of carbon fiber.
Before these images surfaced, we know already that the 1299 Superleggera model would pick up where its 1199 counterpart stopped, using carbon fiber instead of magnesium to shave even more weight off the Panigale.
With a carbon fiber headstock/airbox, carbon fiber swingarm, and carbon fiber wheels, the Ducati 1299 Superleggera should easily get under the 150kg mark – a mind-blowing achievement in its own right.
Power is rumored to get a bump as well, with rumors putting peak horsepower figures in 215-220hp territory when the WSBK-styled racing exhaust is fitted.
We can expect an electronics upgrade to come to the Ducati 1299 Superleggera as well, getting the same software update that the Ducati 1299 Panigale S Anniversario brought to the superbike line.
We expect the 2017 model year to be the last for the Panigale line, and it seems it is getting quite the send-off.
