It would be easy to dismiss the Yamaha TMAX as just another scooter being added to Yamaha USA’s 2015 lineup, but the two-wheeler is all the rage in Europe and Japan, where it serves the interests of young speed fiends and hardcore customizers alike.
Hoping to use that popularity to bring new riders into the Yamaha brand, Yamaha Motor is bringing the venerable TMAX to US soil for the first time…and we’re actually pretty excited about that (not that Yamaha will ever let A&R critique a bike at a press launch).
If you needed further proof that the TMAX is no regular feet-forward ride, then you need to look no farther than the TMAX’s peppy 530cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine with continuously variable transmission (CVT), or the TMAX’s 41mm USD forks that radially mounts two brake calipers.
Built to be the sport bike of scooters, we think American riders will be impressed with what the TMAX has to offer in the “go” department, and hopefully the modders will take note of what’s being done in Europe and Japan with these bike, and make some nice “show” pieces.
Expect to see the 2015 Yamaha TMAX at your local Yamaha dealership later this month, with a $10,490 MSRP.
