Aprilia USA will be part of MotoAmerica’s inaugural season, as the US subsidiary of the Italian brand confirmed an officially supported entry into the MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 class.
To go racing, Aprilia has partnered with HSBK Racing to form the “Aprilia HSBK Racing” team, which will campaign a two-rider lineup on the 2015 Aprilia RSV4 Factory superbike. The names of the riders have not been released as of yet.
This announcement marks an important step for Aprilia USA in getting involved with the American racing scene, as well as developing the Italian brand further in the American market.
Aprilia USA’s problem with sales has always been a marketing one, with the brand mired in dealer support issues and suffering from a general lack of public awareness. As one competing CEO mentioned to us, “it isn’t a product problem” that Aprilia sells the RSV4 in the hundreds instead of the thousands.
Getting involved with MotoAmerica should not only help bolster the company’s presence in the American road racing scene, but also help Aprilia become a more recognized and appreciated brand in the North American market.
“Aprilia is a racing brand, it is in our DNA,” said Phil Read Jr., Marketing & Communications Director for Piaggio Group Americas. “The passion for racing is what drives our ambitions and a relentless determination for success.”
“The new MotoAmerica Superstock series offers a critical step to developing future champions and gives Aprilia USA the ideal opportunity to go racing with the RSV4 Factory. But this is only the first step of a longer plan and we look forward to some exciting racing this year,” he finished.
