Racing to the clouds this weekend, Team Spider Grips Ducati took a comfortable class victory in the 1205cc Pikes Peak motorcycle group, racing on the special Pikes Peak Ducati Multistrada 1200S. Finishing 50 seconds ahead of second place finisher Walker Pew, Greg Tracy was the second fastest motorcyclist overall on the mountain (the fastest bike being in the 750cc class). Tracy’s run continued a strong showing for Ducati at the Pike Peak International Hill Climb, and was 13 seconds off an overall win motorcycle on the mountain.
In third place was the other Multistrada 1200S ridden by Alexander Smith. Despite having a mid-race crash, Smith was only 18 seconds behind the second place Buell XBSTT of Walker Pew. Pew finished the hill climb with a time of 12:35.551, compared to Smith’s 12:53.8381.
Riders of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb complete a 12.46 mile course that switches from dirt to paved roads multiple times over its 156 turns. While racing, competitors will climb nearly a mile in altitude, and navigate turns that have sheer cliff drops off the mountain.
Next year should prove to be an even faster year for Pikes Peak, as the hill climb route is to be completely paved over, giving the advantage to street-oriented motorcycles.
