With the MotoGP paddock still up in the air as to where riders will land for the 2010, some riders are in better positions than others. Nicky Hayden finds himself in the unique position of deciding whether or not he will stay with a factory ride, or move elsewhere. Hayden currently has a one-year contract with Ducati, which has an option to renew the contract for another with the American rider.
Not wanting to renew a rider who no longer wishes to be apart of the team, Ducati is waiting for confirmation from Hayden that he would like to be apart of the Ducati factory team, alongside current teammate Casey Stoner. Ducati has stated that it won’t comment about the contract until the 1st of September, but we can expect rumors on Hayden’s decision well before that time frame.
Should Hayden decide to stay on-board his Desmosedici GP9, Finn Mika Kallio, who has a sporadic but solid season, will remain on the Pramac satellite Ducati team. If he can continue to show signs of improvement and increase the repeatability of his success, we could very well see Kallio on a factory ride with Ducati for 2011. However, if Hayden decides to “gitt’r done” with another team, Kallio could very well be tapped to move up from the Pramac team.
