BMW is recalling 2,385 units of its 2012 & 2012 BMW S1000RR superbikes because of a faulty kickstand. Affecting machines built between September 2011 and December 2012, the recall addresses the attachment bolts to the sidestand, which could start to loosen their way off the motorcycle.
Not wanting to put the affected BMW S1000RR motorcycles at risk to tip-over, BMW will notify owners, and BMW dealers will clean the sidestand mounting plate threads and replace the sidestand mounting plate bolts free of charge.
This recall is expected to start January 2013, and concerned BMW S1000RR owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417, or email BMW at CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com. As always the NHTSA is available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
