Honda Goldwing Recall for Faulty Back Brake, Again

Honda still seems to be having trouble with the brakes on its venerable tourer, the Honda Goldwing, as Big Red is once again recalling the Goldwing for a rear brake that continues to drag after it has been applied and released.

This edition of the recall affects over 145,000 motorcycles, ranging in model years from 2001 to 2015. Three Goldwing variants are included in the recall: the GL1800, GL1800A, and GL1800B.

According to American Honda, the rear brake may increase the risk of a vehicle crash with its dragging; and also that with extended riding, the rear brake dragging could generate enough heat to result in a fire.

As such, Honda will notify affected owners, and dealers will replace the secondary brake master cylinder and the rear brake master cylinder, and flush the brake fluid, free of charge.

American Honda has not yet provided a notification schedule for this recall, but Honda Goldwing owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870, and reference recall number JV6. Note: This recall supercedes recall 14V-472.

As always, the NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
