MCN is reporting that the long-rumored MV Agusta three-cylinder, dubbed the MV Agusta F3 by the media (but not likely to be called this by MV), has been put on hold while MV Agusta looks for a new home outside of Harley-Davidson family. MCN goes on to report that the F3’s rumored displacement has been bumped up from 675cc to nearly 800cc.
While the last part of that rumor sounds rather unlikely, and doesn’t seem to place the F3 in any current motorcycle market segment (FZ8? Hypermotard 796?), it does seems entirely plausible that MV Agusta has halted development of it’s entire line of motorcycles while it waits for funding from a new buyer. While we hoped to see the F3 at some point this year, we could very well be waiting until 2011 to see MV’s triple…if it ever comes out.
Harley-Davidson announced that it would be divesting the Italian brand from its holdings last October, leaving the future of the company some-what in limbo as no immediate buyer has come forward. Many suspect that MV Agusta will find itself back in Italian hands, but until the ink is dry we may not know for certain for some time.
