I struggle with the work of Markus Hofmann, especially as it pertains to his work with BMW. Maybe it is the awkward intersection where high-fashion meets avant garde photography meets German motorcycles that just leaves me wondering what I am looking at with each photo. His work is impressive, don’t get me wrong…I just don’t “get” it…and today is no different.

I dunno, maybe the whole Twilight & True Blood thing is just now taking off in Germany, and this is the product of the world getting just a little bit flatter. Maybe there is a commentary about society lurking underneath the glossy exterior of these fanged photos. Or, maybe…just maybe, vampires are just waaay cooler than I think they are (werewolves baby, werewolves).

We here at Asphalt & Rubber love Leslie Porterfield. She’s the Queen of Speed, Maven of Two Wheels, and Temptress of the Salts. OK, ok, she’s also blonde and leggy, and while the prior titles are important it’s this latter quality that photographer Markus Hofmann was after when he took Porterfield to BMW’s wind testing facility outside of Munich, Germany. You may remember Hofmann from such other confusing couture meets motorcycle Bavarian ad campaigns as cheetahs with models, helicopters with…well…more models that feature the 2010 BMW S1000RR.

Before BMW officially unveiled its S1000RR superbike, it teased us with a series of shots with fashion models backed up by helicopters and cheetahs, making for high-fashion meets German stoicism in a delicious pairing of opposites. In a return to these roots, German photographer Markus Hofmann has once again introduced BMW to Haute Couture for a photo shoot. Video after the jump.
