American Honda will once again be importing a range of Honda-powered Montesa trials bikes into the USA, which is music to our ears. As such, both the and the 2017 2017 Montesa Cota 300RR will be available for order at Honda dealerships.
For the 2017 model year, the Montesa Cota 4RT260 gets mostly bold new graphics, though it does have a longer kickstarter lever, for easier starts. The Montesa Cota 300RR (above), however, gets more substantial changes for this coming model year
Accordingly, the 2017 Montesa Cota 300RR gets revised ECU mapping for better throttle response in the lower rev-ranges. This is important, considering how much of trials riding occurs in the lower part of the RPM band.
The piston head design has also been changed, with three piston rings being used now, instead of the two used on the 2016 model. This improves the durability of the engine cylinder design, which Montesa has also changed, but doesn’t elaborate as to how.
The 2017 Montesa Cota 300RR chassis has also been updated, with the bike featuring new and suppler settings for its Tech fork. These settings are similar to what the factory Repsol riders use in competition.
Finally, the muffler on the Cota 300RR has been changed to be more robust, with reinforced mounts. The rear brake pedal has also been shortened to avoid impacts and allow the rider more freedom of movement.
The 2017 Montesa Cota 4RT260 will be available at Honda dealers starting in November 2016, and it will have a $7,899 MSRP. Meanwhile, the 2017 Montesa Cota 300RR will be available in December 2016, and have a $9,999 MSRP.
If you haven’t tried trials riding, we highly recommend it. It’s some of the most fun you’ll have on a motorcycle while going under 25 mph.
