You have to admit, the idea of an ADV scooter is less than obvious. That hasn’t stopped Big Red from dreaming it, though.
Finally debuting at EICMA, we get the full monty on the Honda X-ADV, a step-through scooter design that’s designed to tackle more than just city traffic and potholed tarmac.
Based off the 745cc parallel-twin platform that powers the Honda Integra scooter and Honda NC750 progeny, the Honda X-ADV makes 54hp, features a dual-clutch transmission (DCT), and gets 65 miles per gallon in fuel consumption.
Honda says that the X-ADV has 21 liters of storage under the seat – large enough to fit an off-road style of helmet. Other amenities include a 3.4 gallon fuel tank, ABS brakes, USD forks and Prolink rear shock suspension, centerstand, skid plate, keyless start smartkey, and a Dakar Rally inspired instrument cluster.
Of course the most important aspects of the 2017 Honda X-ADV are the long-travel scooter suspension (6” front, 5.9” rear), spoked wheels (15” front, 17” rear), and big block tires (120/70 R17 & 160/60 R15).
This allows the Honda X-ADV to have 6.3” of ground clearance, which when combined with the tight turning radius, should help riders overcome tough obstacles.
Like so many things in this space, the Honda X-ADV adventure scooter isn’t light, tipping the scales at 524 lbs wet, which actually makes it heavier than the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin.
