The Ducati 1299 Superleggera is easily the bike of the 2016 EICMA show, and it is the first production motorcycle with a carbon fiber chassis.
On top of that accolade, the 1299 Superleggera is the lightest and most powerful superbike ever created by Ducati, making 220hp and weighing 162kg at the curb, when the track-only race kit is installed.
Every detail of the Ducati 1299 Superleggera serves the purpose of making the motorcycle faster, and each piece has been shaved to find ever ounce possible in weight savings. It helps too that the Ducati 1299 Superleggera is a looker too.

Of note are the carbon fiber frame, swingarm, and wheels, which help distinguish the 1299 Superleggera from its predecessor, the 1199 Superleggera.
We are particularly interested by the construction of the carbon fiber wheels, which are rumored to be made by BST. The intricate design shows a great leap forward in BST’s carbon prowess, and the wheels are an intriguing solution to using carbon fiber in this application.
The double-sided titanium race exhaust from Akrapovic is also of note, as it comes straight out of Ducati’s World Superbike program. Similarly, the paint scheme is straight out of Ducati’s MotoGP program, using the same matte red paint color see there, with a tasteful riff on the Corse livery layout.
Invisible to the human eye is the sophisticated electronics package that comes with the Ducati 1299 Superleggera, which uses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to allow the rider to control wheel spin and wheel slide from the twist of the throttle.
Race-spec cornering ABS is also enabled by the IMU, making this the most technologically advance superbike from Ducati, ever.
Only 500 units will be built (many of which have already been reserved), and to get your name on the list, you will need a cool $80,000 in the USA.
