Could we see the return of Ben Spies to motorcycle racing? That’s the talk of the paddock right now, and the former MotoGP racer is helping fuel the fires with his social media posts.
Our sources point to Spies gearing up for a return to domestic racing, as he looks to ride in the MotoAmerica Championship (presumably on a superbike), and possibly also as a team owner as well, fielding his own entry.
This should come as a surprising but welcomed bit of news to motorcycle racing fans, as the 33-year-old seemingly retired from motorcycle racing after the 2013 MotoGP Championship season, after extensive damage to his shoulders seemed to rule him out of a future of racing motorcycles.
Posting copious photos of himself cycling and riding dirt bikes on social media in the past months, Spies has been seemingly upping his physical fitness, particularly his riding fitness.
And yesterday, the former AMA Superbike and World Superbike champion posted this photo, which seems to all but confirm his return to the race track:
Our sources indicate that there is a soon-to-be released announcement about Spies’ racing future, which should come as immensely welcomed news by motorcycle racing fans, both in the United States and abroad.
We of course wait to hear more from the Texan, but his arrival in the MotoAmerica paddock could help boost the rebooted American championship, and bring more fans through the gates on race weekends – something we are sure everyone at MotoAmerica is well aware of.
