The sound of two-stroke race bikes will once again thunder through the streets on the Isle of Man, as Ian Lougher is set to race the Suter MMX 500 at this year’s Isle of Man TT.
The 576cc V4 two-stroke Suter has already made its debut during the TT, last racing during the 2016 edition of this iconic road race, though with lackluster results (121+ mph best lap) due to mechanical issues.
Hoping to right that wrong, Lougher will once again climb aboard the Suter MMX500, and no matter what the result sheets say, we are sure the fans along the Manx hedgerows will enjoy his effort.
Lougher has 30 years of experience on the Mountain Course at the Isle of Man, and in that time he has racked up 10 Isle of Man TT wins, along with an impressive tally from the North West 200 (8 wins) and Ulster Grand Prix (18 wins).
One of the older TT riders now in the paddock, we doubt we will see the Suter MMX500 break any records during the TT fortnight, but Lougher’s knowledge of the TT circuit, when added to the performance potential of the Suter, could make for an excellent combination.
“It goes without saying, I am excited to be racing the Suter MMX500 again at the Isle of Man TT Races,” said racer Ian Lougher. “I feel that after all the hard work put in by the entire Suter team and myself, it’s very much unfinished business and I can‘t wait to go testing.”
“It‘s two years since our last episode together, and the engineers say that they have managed to squeeze even more power out of the engine and iron out all the niggling problems we encountered in 2016. I’m ready to go down Bray Hill and give the spectators that two stroke experience again.”
We eagerly await this experience. The 2018 Isle of Man TT kicks off on two-months’ time.
