MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro – A New Generation of Style

It’s here. The next generation of four-cylinder sport bike from MV Agusta just broke cover at this year’s EICMA show in Milan. As such, say hello to the 2019 MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro. This is likely as close as you will ever get to one, as only 300 will be built.

An evolution of Massimo Tamburini’s original Brutale design, the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro does not disappoint, especially with its 205hp (152 kW) peak power figure – the highest performance figure of any production streetfighter.

With the special race kit installed, power on the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro increases to 209hp (156 kW), with the 4-1-4 titanium exhaust from SC Project highlighting the change in peak horsepower.

To achieve this, the Italian company has drawn its inspiration from the MV Agusta F4 RC race bike in the WorldSBK Championship, employing similar strategies in combustion, lubrication, and friction reduction.

As we expected, the Brutale 1000 platform continues MV Agusta’s four-cylinder heritage, and now comes in a 998cc package (79mm by 50.9mm), with a 13.65:1 compression ratio, again building off the F4 superbike racing machine.

Starting with the F4 superbike engine, MV Agusta made extensive modifications. The titanium radial valves now slide through new sintered valve guides, and open up into an entirely redesigned combustion chamber. The camshaft timing has also been reworked, with changes made to both the intake and the exhaust lobes.

The four pistons use new low friction Asso compression rings, which improve performance and efficiency, while the crankshaft has been completely redesigned from scratch.

On the electronics side, MV Agusta has moved to a 5″ TFT dash, which is a welcomed change by us. Rider aids include an eight-level traction control system, assisted by an inertial measurement unit (IMU). This means also that there is wheelie control, launch control, and an up/down quickshifter.

The chassis is classic MV Agusta, with steel trellis design mated to aluminum plates. This helps make for a dry weight of 410 lbs (186 kg), which is further reduce to 406 lbs (184 kg) when the race kit is installed.

Of course, what really sets the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro apart is the bike’s details. Carbon fiber wheels start things off, though our eye was immediately drawn to the aerodynamic wings that wrap around the radiator. The winglets start applying meaningful downforce at 125 mph (200 km/h), without affecting handling.

Smaller details are everywhere on this machine, including the carbon fiber clutch cover and phonic wheel covers, which help with noise reduction. Of note too are the clip-on handlebars, which isn’t something you normally see on a streetfighter.

For components, electronic suspension pieces from Öhlins abound, including a TTX36 rear shock and NIX front forks. Brakes are by Brembo, and feature Stylema calipers mated to 320mm discs up front.

Of course, the bodywork is completely made out of carbon fiber, and the lighting is all LED. In addition to the daylight running light (DRL), the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro has cornering lights, which are operated by the bike’s IMU.

As with all the MV Agusta bike with the name “Oro” (Italian for “Gold”), the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro will be a limited edition affair, with only 300 models being produced.
