When we first saw the Moto Guzzi V85 TT, details on the retro ADV bike were scarce – we knew only what we could see. But, slowly the Italian company has shed light on its creation, bit by bit.
Today, we learn what is perhaps the most important aspect of this 2019 model year machine: its price.
Aggressively positioned in the market, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT will start at $11,990 MSRP with its grey paint, while the Moto Guzzi V85 TT Adventure (which comes with bags and red/yellow/white paint job) will retail for $12,990 at the dealership.
With both bikes available in the United States starting in May 2019, adventure riders will have a new middleweight to choose from when they consider adding a new bike to their stable…and the offering from Moto Guzzi is very strong.
The V85 TT comes fully stocked with features, the highlight being the 850cc longitudinal v-twin engine, which will produce 80hp and 59 lbs•ft (80 Nm) of torque.
Tipping the scales at 458 lbs dry, obviously without its 5.5 gallons of fuel onboard, the Moto Guzzi V85 TT comes with a large TFT dash, LED lights, cornering ABS, traction control, and a ride-by-wire throttle with three riding modes (Road, Rain, and Off-Road).
The fully adjustable suspension has 6.7″ of travel, with 41mm forks up front. Fuel range is said to be roughly 250 miles.
Despite what we’ve seen in photos, it is the grey version of the V85 TT that comes with the $11,990 price tag, while side and top bags will come standard on the Ronald McDonald inspired model.
At this price point, Moto Guzzi makes quite the splash. As you can see below in a quick comparison chart, similarly spec’d European machines are commanding over $3,000 more than the Moto Guzzi.
Moto Guzzi V85 TT | Triumph Tiger 800 XCa | BMW F850GS ADV | KTM 1090 Adventure R | |
Horsepower | 80hp | 95 hp | 89 hp | 125 hp |
Torque | 59 lbs•ft | 58 lbs•ft | 63 lbs•ft | 80 lbs•ft |
Weight | 458 lbs (dry) | 459 lbs (dry) | 504 lbs (wet) | 456 lbs (dry) |
Engine | V-Twin / 850cc | Triple / 800cc | Parallel Twin / 853cc | V-Twin / 1050cc |
Price | $11,990 | $15,850 | $15,695 | $14,999 |
Despite this price difference, the 2019 Moto Guzzi V85 TT is right in line when it comes to features, horsepower, and weight.
Working with a 19″ wheel up front, the V85 TT might not have the same off-road capabilities as the 21″ shod BMW and KTM, but it won’t be far off considering the general off-road worthiness of a laden ~500 lbs machine.
The Moto Guzzi looks beefy though, and ready for ADV duty. It also offers something completely different to what is currently available in the motorcycle industry, which makes it a breath of fresh air.
At $12,000 we think Moto Guzzi is set to surprise some people with the V85 TT. And might we add, this Italian brand is showing some serious mojo for the 2019 model year.
