Pirelli Debuts Superbike Slicks for Small-Displacement Bikes

It seemed like it would be only a matter of time before we saw a tire manufacturer catering to the rise of small-displacement racing machines.

So, it doesn’t surprise us too much to see Pirelli is leading the charge, and releasing a set of superbike slicks that are designed for the new 300cc class of sport bikes.

That Pirelli would get into the small-displacement space isn’t too surprising when you think about it, considering the Italian brand was the spec-tire provider for the World Supersport 300 Championship this year, which saw Ana Carrasco winning the inaugural season.

As you would expect, the new Pirelli tires come in special sizes for this class, with the front tire sized at 110/70-17, and with the rear tire sized at 140/70-17 – both tires will be available only in Pirelli’s SC1 (soft) compound.

According to Pirelli, the front tire has been designed for improved handling and grip, while the rear will continue to have the same feel as the current Diablo Supercorsa tire.

“Pirelli’s racing team has been working hard to develop sizing dedicated to smaller displacement sportbike racing”, said Oscar Solis, Road Racing Manager for Pirelli.

“Throughout the past several years the 300cc and 400cc sportbike popularity has continued to trend upwards, generating interest as an entry-level racing class and for younger riders that are looking to move up through the ranks. Our testing was extremely positive and we have designed a product to meet the needs and expectations of all skill levels on the racetrack.”

The new Diable Superbike tires should be arrive in time for this year’s road racing season, and be available at your normal trackside Pirelli tire vendors.
