Here is one for a bit of nostalgia, as Honda is set to bring a concept motorcycle that riffs on iconic machine from Big Red’s lineup. The motorcycle shown above is the Honda CT125 concept, which is to debut in a month’s time at the Tokyo Motor Show.
For those that know their motorcycle history, the “CT” name should be a familiar one from Honda, as the trail-oriented motorcycles were the off-road counterparts to the popular Super Cub street bikes.
With Honda offering a new modern version of the Super Cub, it is perhaps only logical that the Japanese brand does the same for the CT name, hence the Honda CT125 concept.
Like the new Super Cub, the Honda CT125 concept uses the Honda Grom motor as its base, but builds around it an all-new motorcycle. Honda describes the CT125 concept with the following:
Inheriting the original “CT” concept, the CT125 features a steel front fender and up-muffler (above the engine), a wide and large rear carrier, high-mount air intake duct and side air cleaners and yet realizes simple and unique styling.
While featuring a casual characteristic suitable for everyday use, the CT125 is positioned also as a trekking bike which is equipped with functions that enable the rider to enjoy it in the outdoors.
As of right now, the Honda CT125 concept is, well, a concept. However bikes that debut at the Tokyo Motor Show have a funny way of becoming production machines.
This was the case with the Honda Monkey, Honda CB1000R, and Honda CBR250RR. As such, we would expect the Honda CT125 to become a production model within the next model year or two.
As for viability, the Honda CT125 has legs around the world as a popular people-mover, and it helps round out what Honda calls its “Mini-Moto” lineup.
As someone who had his first motorcycle ride on the original Honda Trail 110, this concept intrigues us, and hopefully it will intrigue other non-motorcyclists to give motorcycles a try.
