We know that the Aprilia RS 660 will debut as a production bike at EICMA next week, and we know that the Italian brand plans to make a few different machines off its middleweight twin platform.
So, they leaves us making some very obvious guesses about what will come next from Noale, and an Aprilia Tuono 660 is perhaps the most logical of those thought processes.
Confirming that suspicion, it seems that Aprilia was showing off its smaller Tuono model at an Imola track day, with the above spy shot getting snapped by the folks at ApriliaCup.
The photo shows a bike that not only we expected, but also as we expected it.
The basic Tuono styling is there in the headlight cluster and flyscreen. The lines from the Aprilia RS 660 remain in many places as well, especially in the tail section, which helps draw a lineage between the two models.
We can presume that power on the Aprilia Tuono 660 will be slightly less than its full-fairing counterpart, though we don’t expect to see as big of a difference between the two 660 platform machines, as we do on the 1100 V4 platform.
Like the RS 660 though, we do expect to see a full electronics suite, and class leading performance figures.
Pricing should be a little cheaper than the RS 660 as well, and it wouldn’t surprise us to see two trims levels (the same can be said for the RS 660 model too).
We anticipate that the Aprilia Tuono 660 motorcycle will be a 2021 model year bike, but there is a chance that the Italians could surprise us at EICMA and release the model there, alongside the Aprilia RS 660, which we know will be a 2020 machine (likely a late-2020 model for the US market).
We still anticipate a long-travel suspension version of the 660 platform, perhaps in an ADV package, though we wouldn’t mind seeing Aprilia getting back into the supermotard game, with a lightweight Hypermotard 950 killer.
