Aprilia Very Quietly Teases the New Tuareg 660 at EICMA

No press releases. No social media hype-posts. No big fancy displays. In fact, it was very easy to miss that Aprilia was giving us a glimpse at its next middleweight motorcycle at EICMA at all. But, it was there if you were careful to look at your surroundings.

Now granted, it is very hard to tell what is going on with the Aprilia Tuareg 660, since…well, the Italians covered it in shrubbery. Such is the state of their display at the Milan trade show, as they try to tease us with this ADV model.

But, we can pick out some details between the vines, bushes, and leafs…and they are intriguing.

For starters, the name Tuareg 660 can be seen on the motorcycle’s tail section, which gives us a pretty good idea about what we are dealing with.

For those who don’t know, the Aprilia Tuareg is dual-sport lineup from the Italian brand, and it harkens back to history from many decades ago.

Of course, the 660 designation tells us that we are dealing with Aprilia’s new 660cc parallel-twin platform, which means 90hp or more for this adventure-tourer.

Though it can be hard to really tell anything of substance from Aprilia’s display, since they have done such a good job of camouflaging their next creation, but a couple details do point to this being a serious off-road machine.

Likely to go head-to-head with the KTM 790 Adventure, we can see a 21″ knobby front tire poking out from the jungle growth. We can also see a metal skid plate, a steel trellis subframe in red, handguards, and a dirt bike inspired fairing.

Judging from what we have seen on the RS 660 and Tuono 660, this Tuareg 660 from Aprilia should have a robust electronics package, along with a price tag that won’t hurt the wallet.

Though we are still early days with the Aprilia Tuareg 660, we could see the adventure-tourer as early as the 2021 model year.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: the middleweight ADV space is red hot right now with solid offerings from motorcycle manufacturers. It is a great time to be alive!
