Hello from a sunny Ronda, Spain where we bring you a different type of “Gone Riding” review. Instead of a particular bike to test, we will be hopping onto a plethora of motorcycles, in an effort to put the new Metzeler Sportec M9 RR tire through its paces.
The successor to the highly revered Sportec M7 RR, the Sportec M9 RR has a high standard to live up to, especially as the “hypersport” tire market has seen an influx of strong competitors.
An often overlooked brand in the US market, Metzeler has made a name for itself in Europe and other markets as a tire-maker that is geared towards the everyday rider – as in, for riders who ride every-damn-day, rain or shine.
As such, our testing sees us riding the famous roads around Ronda to get a feel for this sport bike tire on the streets, and then we will head to the Ascari Circuit for some apex-shredding under the warm Andalusian sun.
To make things a bit comprehensive though, we will also ride the circuit under wet conditions, to see how the new Metzeler Sportec M9 RR stacks up when conditions aren’t perfect.
It should be an interesting test for this dual-compound tire, which employs a lot of silica in its compound choice, as well as a novel carcass structure.
Will it supersede the high-water mark left by the M7? And will this Made-in-Germany tire show itself to be a step above the competition? That’s what we hope to find out.
