The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R is a bike that we are eagerly looking forward to, here at Asphalt & Rubber, which might seem strange if you don’t know too much about the quarter-liter sport bike.
But with a 250cc displacement coming from its inline-four engine, which revs to 17,000 rpm…well, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R isn’t your typical mundane small-displacement affair.
Team Green is slowly building the hype machine for this model, and to help get us in the mood, we have a short video of WorldSBK racers Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes putting the ZX-25R through its paces at the Jerez circuit.
The video doesn’t give too much away in terms of information, but we do get to hear that little four-cylinder engine scream in delight. We can also see from the footage that the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R has a stratospheric rev range, which is likely to make some good power figures (we guess near 50hp), and the little bike seems to hit 100 mph in fifth gear with little problem.
As we have explained before for our A&R Pro readers, the purpose of the ZX-25R is to fill a role that the Ninja 400 holds, except for in the Asian markets, where the 400cc displacement puts it out of reach on tiered licenses and the insurance is prohibitively expensive.
The fact that this video is on the main Kawasaki for YouTube bodes well for the bike’s arrival outside of Southeast Asia, though we still have our fingers crossed that it will hit Europe and the United States.
Rumors out of Indonesia suggest that we will see the official debut of the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R on April 4th, at special events throughout Jakarta. This should tip Kawasaki’s hand on pricing for this interesting 250cc machine.
