The Ducati MH900e is a special bike in the brand’s history. It is a model that this author lusts over often, with its unique modern take of the old classic aesthetic.
The bike was ahead of its time, in many ways, and we can see now brands imitating in 2020 what Ducati made two decades ago.
The Ducati MH900e might be the best thing that Pierre Terblanche ever penned, and if you can find one in good shape these days, be prepared to spend some coin if you want it in your garage.
We have of course seen the resurgence of the modern-café look, most notably in the MV Agusta Superveloce 800, and to a lesser extent with bikes like the Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe.
With the V4 platform from Ducati now finding its way beyond the race track – in the recently released Streetfighter V4 and the soon-to-be Multistrada V4 – we seen an interesting opportunity for the Italian brand to capitalize on its history.
Take this concept rendering from Tamás Jakus, which takes the MH900E aesthetic and applies it to the Panigale V4 platform.
The effect is palpable. It has a feeling all the feels. Our pants no longer fit. We’re out of paper towels…you get the idea.
With Ducati making a masterpiece with its Desmosedici Stradale engine, especially in making a 205hp version that is totally streetable, the idea of a road-focused cafe racer is very, very appealing.
There’s no indication that Ducati has any interest in a bike like this resto-mod MH900E, but they should. It’s perfect.
