Will a Triumph Dirt Bike Debut Tomorrow?

Triumph is teasing a big announcement for tomorrow, and if the signals from the British brand are to be believed, then the company is poised to enter the dirt segment.

Our clues for this are social media posts showing American motocross champion Ricky Carmichael and Spanish enduro champion Ivan Cervantes in Triumph attire, announcing the date of the pending announcement.

If one is reading the tea leaves correctly with these rider picks, then Triumph is set to debut both a motocross an enduro series of dirt bikes.

Where the British brand will start with those models could be interesting and could tell a lot about how Triumph views the future of the off-road sector.

Will the bikes be two-stroke, four-stroke, or electric? What engine size could Triumph start with? 125cc, 250cc, 450cc, or bigger? This is all unclear at this point in time.

A larger range of enduros could helps bolster Triumph’s adventure bike lineup, and bridge the gap from the Tiger series to smaller, more woods-focused machines.

Similarly, smaller displacement bikes could help bring younger riders into the brand, though experienced riders would be looking for a 450cc dirt bike from the British marque.

For the company, the move into the off-road sector is a strong one, and helps Triumph have a multi-season offering for customers (and for dealers) – something its current on-road bias prevents.

With dirt bike sales in the United States sky rocketing during the pandemic, the case for an off-road range makes more sense for the brand’s as it tries to push further into the American market.

We would expect to see Triumph position itself as a premium brand, against the likes of KTM and Husqvarna.

How the Brits will fare against the Austrian dominance in the off-road space remains to be seen. It should be interesting though. Stay tuned for tomorrow.
