It was only a few hours ago that we were talking to you about the upcoming plans for the new World Supersport regulations, and now MV Agusta gives us a glimpse of the machine that they will be offering this reimagined middleweight category.
Built for the purpose of winning races, say hello to the 2022 MV Agusta F3 RR.
The basic lines of the MV Agusta F3 RR might seem familiar, but the Italian brand has spent a considerable amount of time developing a new aerodynamics package for the supersport bike, which includes side-mounted strakes, a redesigned front fender, and reshaped windscreen.
MV Agusta claims over 17 lbs of downforce can be generated at 150 mph (240 km/h) from the new carbon fiber wings, without losing any top-end from the supersport-class machine. Additionally, MV Agusta says that the front fender drastically improves airflow across the whole of the bike.
The 798cc three-cylinder engine remains the same 145hp (108 kW) Euro5 compliant power plant that we liked on the Rosso model, though that figure jumps to 153hp (114 kW) when you install the optional and very not-road legal racing kit (Akrapovic exhaust and racing ECU map).
This also means that the MV Agusta F3 RR benefits from a dedicated six-axis IMU from courtesy of e-Novia from Milan, Italy, which augments traction control and wheelie control.
The F3 RR also benefits from a Continental MK100 cornering ABS in its electronics package, and the EAS quickshifter is now in its third iteration on the F3 platform, with faster and smoother up/down quickshifting.
On the chassis side of things, MV Agusta has adjusted the frame plates on the F3 RR for more rigidity, both torsionally and longitudinally – specifically in how they mount the swingarm to the chassis.
The suspension settings have also be reworked on the fully adjustable Marzocchi forks and Sachs rear shock, both for better feedback on the track, and also for better on-road characteristics.
The highlight of the chassis changes though have to be the new wheels package, which is 7% lighter than the previous cast units, with a 10% decrease in their associated moment of inertia.
Other mechanical upgrades abound on the F3 RR, including revised hand controls on the right-hand bar, a new stronger clutch basket, a 5.5″ TFT dash, and new footpegs for better feel.
Pricing in Europe starts at €21,900 MSRP, which is inline with what the outgoing F3 800 RC model cost.
