KTM North America is recalling nearly 400 Husqvarna dual-sport motorcycles because of problems with their brake pad retaining clips. Again…
For those keeping track, four months ago, KTM North America issued exactly this same recall (21V-678) for the same dual-sport models.
The recall specifically affects the Husqvarna FE 501s and FE 350s motorcycles, from the 2022 model year; and interestingly enough for extra moto-nerd points, the two bikes account for roughly a 50/50 split on the vehicles involved in this recall.
As one would then expect, this recall supersedes NHTSA recall 21V-678, and the motorcycles that were previously repaired under the 21V-678 recall will need to have this new remedy performed.
According to recall documents, the previous 21V-678 recall addressed that the “R” shaped brake pad retaining clips could have been installed incorrectly (it’s not clear from the documentation, but it would seem that the clips were facing the wrong direction after installation).
Now, brake supplier J.Juan has updated the clips to have an “R” shape that has more retention features, and KTM AG (Husqvarna’s parent company) has determined that all affected models in this lineup should use the new clip design.
As such, Husqvarna 501s and 350s owners are advised to not ride their motorcycles until the repair has been performed. Husqvarna dealers will replace the front and rear brake pad retaining clips, free of charge.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in January 2022.
