KTM North America is having to recall 17 models of KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles (model years 2019-2023) because their Continental TKC 80 dual-sport tires may develop cracks in their tread, which could lead to tread separation and a lack of traction.
According to recall documents, cracks longer than 3/16 of an inch may develop in the tread grooves.
If this were to occur, then the vehicles in question would fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, “New Pneumatic Tires-Other Than Passenger Cars” and thus not be road-legal.
This tire recall affects 60,807 KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles.

Diving into the recall chronology, Continental Tire Americas (CTA) filed a Noncompliance Information Report (NHTSA ID 22T003) to initiate a recall of the complete ContiScoot tire line because of potential tread groove cracking, in February 2022.
During this investigation, CTA evaluated and performed endurance testing on additional motorcycle tire products.
Between February and April of the same year, additional endurance tests revealed further products from the Continental tire lines TKC80, ContiGo!, K62, and LB that were also sensitive to developing groove cracks.
On April 29, 2022, CTA made a determination that noncompliance on various products exists and therefore decided to initiate this recall.
CTA is not aware of any field complaints for this condition and has not received any reports of property damage or personal injury claims for the affected products. Similarly, KTM North America is not aware of any field complaints and has not received any reports of property damage or personal injury.
To remedy the situation, KTM dealers will replace the affected tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on September 19, 2022.
