IOMTT: McGuinness Makes It 19 after the Superstock TT

The 2012 Isle of Man TT is shaping up to be a good fortnight for Mr. John McGuinness, as the King of the Mountain has claimed another TT race victory with the Royal London 360 Superstock TT race. Again making his lead in the first lap, McGuinness rode an uncontested race for the four lap TT, getting his 19th TT race win with a comfortable 8 second margin.

It wasn’t all easy street for McPint though, as Ryan Farquhar was only 0.17 seconds behind McGuinness after the first lap, though the Padgett’s Honda rider was able to stretch that lead out over the second lap, and gain even more of an advantage in the sole pitstop of the race.

With 10 seconds over Michael Dunlop at the start of the third lap, Farquhar’s pace couldn’t hold to the Irishman’s surge on the fourth and final lap, and the privateer would have to settle for third place — just barely holding off Bruce Anstey.

Anstey would best Guy Martin, who again couldn’t seem to make progress on his winless TT streak. Lapping third on the first lap, Martin slipped backwards through the field to finish a disappointing fifth for the day. Teammate and local hero, Conor Cummins was again a scratch for today’s races.

With McGuinness favored in Friday’s Pokerstars Senior TT, and the Mugen Shinden a contender in the SES TT Zero, there is a serious chance that the man from Morecambe could leave the fortnight with 20 career TT wins or more.
