2014 Honda CTX1300 — Not Your Father’s Bagger

Honda’s new model philosophy is all about crossovers between already existing segments, and from that we get the 2014 Honda CTX1300 & 2014 Honda CTX1300 Deluxe. Aesthetically similar to the Honda Gold Wing F6B that we saw earlier this year, the Honda CTX1300 features the a modified version of the Honda ST1300’s 1,261cc V4 engine and five-speed gearbox.

Honda’s key focus with the CTX line is the combination of comfort and technology, which is where the motorcycle series gets its three-letter model name. Honda says the CTX1300 has a comfortable riding position and low center of gravity with its 29.1-inch seat, which all makes for an effortless cruising experience that has the American highway system in mind with its 5.1 gallon fuel tank.

Building off the V4 engine at its core, the 2014 Honda CTX1300 Deluxe takes things one step further in the technology department, and includes a Bluetooth enabled audio package, self-cancelling turn signals, anti-lock braking system (ABS), and traction control. The Honda CTX1300 Deluxe visually distinguished its with a various blacked-out styling elements.

While Honda touts the CTX1300’s “moderate” weight, the Honda CTX1300 is a big bike, with a big curb weight: 724 lbs (CTX1300) / 731 lbs (CTX1300 Deluxe). How the CTX1300 will stack against the F6B on the showroom floor remains to be seen, though considering the positive reception that bagger has received, more options for buyers doesn’t sound like a bad problem to have.

No official word on price yet, though expect something in the $17,000 range for the base model Honda CTX1300, and upwards even higher for the Honda CTX1300 Deluxe. We suspect that will be the sticking point for Honda on this machine. It will come in metallic black, gray-blue metallic, and candy red paint.
