The KTM 450 SMR is Coming Back to America

Good news supermoto fans! After a seven-year hiatus, the KTM 450 SMR is coming back to the United States as a 2021 model.

Based off the KTM 450 SX-F motocross bike, the KTM 450 SMR features the same 450cc engine and five-speed gearbox. As you would expect, the frame is chromium molybdenum steel, with a cast aluminum swingarm.

To complete the supermoto transformation though, KTM has added 16.5”/17” tubeless Alpina spoked wheels, Bridgestone slicks, a four-piston Brembo radial caliper mated to a 310mm rotor, and a Suter slipper clutch.

Other go-fast bits include a new Brembo radial master cylinder for the front brakes, SM triple clamps with a 16mm offset, and WP XACT front forks with AER internals (285mm travel), as well as a WP XACT rear shock (266mm travel) that is attached via a linkage.

Throttle maps are accessible via a handlebar switch, and there is also an adjustable traction control and launch control rider aids.

We will see the 2021 KTM 450 SMR in US dealerships starting in November of this year. Pricing is set at $11,299 MSRP.

Interestingly, that price tag is only $300 more than what the sibling Husqvarna FS 450 goes for here in the United States, though the machines seem to only differ in bodywork color, and that the Husqvarna has a carbon subframe, whereas the KTM gets an aluminum subframe.
