The Ducati Multistrada V4 family got a little bigger today, with the Italian brand offering the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally for the 2023 model year.
The bike is aimed at the niche carved out by bikes like the BMW R1250GS Adventure, where long-distance travel (over questionable terrain) is the name of the game.
To aid in that goal, Ducati has added several key features that set the Multistrada V4 Rally apart from the rest of the Bologna brand’s lineup.
First is the addition of a 30-liter fuel tank – that’s 7.9 gallons of fuel – which should help boost the range of the V4-powered adventure bike, especially where the sidewalk ends.
Ducati seemingly acknowledges that the V4 Granturismo motor is a thirsty girl, and has employed cylinder deactivation (turning off the cylinders in the rear cylinder bank) not only during stops, but also at steady high speeds.
Cylinder deactivation while in motion on the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally is a first in the motorcycle industry, and an item we postulated upon when the motor was first announced back in 2020. It’s good to see Ducati taking our advice – the check is in the mail, right guys?
The rest of the package includes 200mm of suspension travel, which increases ground clearance, and a new “Enduro” riding mode on the power / throttle map mode selection menu. For those wondering, the front remains a 19″ hoop with tubeless wire and rim wheels.
Other niceties include auto-leveling from the Skyhook semi-active suspension, wider footpegs to make standing easier, reinforced engine guards, and a “minimum preload” setting that lowers the bike when it comes to a stop.
Ducati has also added an “easy lift” function, which reduces the compression damping settings so the bike is easier to pick-up off its side-stand. A centerstand is a standard item as well.
Expect to see the 2023 Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally in dealerships starting in February 2023. US pricing starts at $31,495 MSRP, which also makes the Multistrada V4 Rally the most expensive ADV machine in the segment.
