As expected, today we see the debut of a limited edition Troy Bayliss model from Ducati Motor Holding, but unexpectedly the bike in question is the based off the Ducati Panigale V2.
Officially called the Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Champion 20th Anniversary, the motorcycle features a fetching livery, adorned with the racing number of three-time World Champion, Troy Bayliss.
There is more here though than just some paint and a $4,500 markup (MSRP is set at $21,000, whereas a base model will cost you $16,500).
First of all, for that extra coin, one gets Öhlins suspension front and back, with NX30 front forks, a TTX36 rear shock, and a steering damper.
The Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss is also setup as a single-seater, with a lithium-ion battery, which means it tips the scales 3kg less than the base model.
The Bayliss models will be a limited numbered edition, though Ducati hasn’t been able to confirm how many bikes will be included in this limited run.
When we got a chance to ride the Ducati Panigale V2 at Jerez last year, we called it the perfect track bike – especially for those whose ego don’t require a full superbike kit.
We also lamented the fact that Ducati didn’t have a higher spec version between the Panigale V2 and Panigale V4 models, but it seems that hope has been largely answered as well.
With Troy Bayliss being beloved by the Ducatisti ranks, we doubt the Italian brand will have trouble selling these tributes to the Australian racer.
