With the NCR Leggera 1200 Special, Ducati tuner NCR is setting two firsts with its titanium clad Hypermotard. Known for making gorgeous work out of already gorgeous motorcycles (NCR Corse Millona One Shot anyone?), none of LCR’s prior creations are destined for a life of street use, and come absent of any lights, mirrors, etc. However, the NCR Leggera 1200 Special is the first NCR that comes out of the crate street legal, and oh…it’s also the lightest Hypermotard in existence, dropping 125 lbs off the stock Ducati Hypermotard…it’s not bad looking either.
Coming with the usual NCR look and feel, the NCR Leggera 1200 Special is based of the Hypermotard 1100, and comes with a titanium frame that weighs only 10.6 lbs, just like the NCR Leggera. Other trick bits include the carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon bodywork and wheels. But while the base NCR Leggera comes with a stock DS 1100 motor, the NCR Leggera 1200 Special features a completely re-worked motor from NCR Corse.
To achieve the extra “umpf”, NCR has two motor tune packages for the Leggera. The Big Bore Kit takes the 1100cc motor and bumps it up to 1160cc’s, which is good for 125 hp. However, real go-fast enthusiasts will want the full NCR Corse engine treatment, which really puts the “Special” in the NCR Leggera 1200 Special’s name.
As you might have guessed, displacement gets pushed further up into the 1200cc range, while titanium valves and other work put the maximum horsepower figure at 132 hp. The need for speed won’t be cheap though, as the NCR Leggera 1200 Special costs an additional arm and leg over the $72,000 price tag of the base Leggera. You can find a NCR Leggera 1200 Special wherever fine motorcycles are sold.
