Alpinestars Debuts A Standalone Airbag System for Off-Road Use

Perhaps the best news from Alpinestars at CES is that the Italian brand is going to make its off-road airbag system available to consumers, later this year.

The news comes as part of Alpinestars’ larger airbag product line announcement, but we figured this news was so important, it deserved its own story.

This is because the Tech-Air OFF-ROAD V2 protection jacket is the first commercially available airbag system designed for off-road motorcyclists, and that makes it a game-changer for those who want the best protection in the dirt.

Built upon years of experience and data collection from the Dakar Rally, the Alpinestars Tech-Air OFF-Road V2 uses six sensors to determine when to deploy its double-use airbag system.

Like the racer-only version it was built off of, the Alpinestars Tech-Air OFF-Road V2 has an integrated water bladder, as well as three riding algorithms.

Those algorithms are changed via an app, and include a street mode, light off-road mode, and a rally mode that is based off data from the Dakar Rally.

Alpinestars is very clear that the Tech-Air OFF-ROAD is not meant for MX duty, though the company says that such a system is in the works, and has been in development since 2017.

As we mentioned, the system is good for two deployments, but the best news is that the protection jacket is user-serviceable, meaning one can swap out its two air canisters while still on the trail, for maximum protection.

Priced at $899.95 MSRP, the Alpinestars Tech-Air OFF-Road V2 will come in a range of sizes, starting at small and going up to 2XL (it’s possible that the sizing will include 3XL and 4XL as well, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet).

Expect to see the Alpinestars Tech-Air OFF-Road V2 available later this year, around October 2022.

When it arrives, the Alpinestars Tech-Air OFF-Road V2 will signal a new era for protection in rally and trail riding, and we hope that the Italian brand doesn’t dally in its MX edition debut as well.

The year might have only just begun, but the Alpinestars Tech-Air OFF-Road V2 looks to be one of the most important launches in 2022. Good stuff.
