Red Bull KTM MotoGP rider Pol Espargaro is to miss the upcoming MotoGP test at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, KTM has announced.
The 26-year-old Spaniard is suffering with a hernia in his L4 vertebra, for which he underwent surgery on Monday night in Barcelona.
Espargaro’s injury was probably caused in the big crash he suffered on the second day of the Sepang test, locking the front going into Turn 4 and tumbling through the gravel at very high speed.
Espargaro was taken to hospital for X-rays, but no injuries were found at the time.
There is no news yet of when Espargaro expects to be fit again. Mika Kallio will be picking up the testing slack left by Espargaro’s absence in Thailand, testing alongside Bradley Smith. The MotoGP test in Thailand starts on Friday.
