If you liked what you saw with the 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, and you live in the United States, well…we have some bad news for you. The new 1290 ADV bike will not be coming to the USA this year, and instead will be a 2022 model.
This news comes to us from our Bothan spies, and the indication is that none of KTM’s upcoming 1290 bikes will see US soil until next year, including the KTM 1290 Adventure R and KTM 1290 Super Duke GT – two models we are expecting to see updated soon.
Despite the United States being the single largest market for KTM, our domestic sales are a quagmire for the Austrian brand.
This is because KTM is very much still a dirt bike brand in the USA, and KTM still has trouble selling its bigger street bikes here.
As such, today’s news centers around the fact that KTM dealers in the United States are still holding onto a bit of 1290 inventory, which needs to be cleared out before the new models can arrive.
Compounding the problem though has been the plummeting state of street bike sales in the United States, thanks to the coronavirus outbreak. This hasn’t been the case in all the markets, though.
This leaves KTM in an awkward spot, waiting for American dealers to catch-up their inventory before they release new bikes, or the Austrian company leaves the US behind in this regard.
Either way, it is a tough one for American motorcycle consumers, and we doubt many current 1290 bikes will move from dealership floors now with the future models debuting in other markets.
