As the spread of the coronavirus continues, motorcycle manufacturers in Europe (especially in Italy) are having to continuously adjust their plans and expectations.

Accordingly, we get news that Ducati Motor Holding will continue to suspend and augment its factory activities through March 25th, pushing back its reopen date as the situation in Italy continues to worsen.

For the Italian brand, the move isn’t a total disruption, as the factory was already slated for closure between March 13th and today, March 18th.

That closure has been made in part to implement a series of changes to the production lines, which aims to increase the safety of workers and to introduce a multi-shift work program that will halve the number of people on the assembly line at the same time.

Before these changes, Ducati says that it was already taking several safety precautions to screen workers from the coronavirus, like taking the temperature of each person entering the plant; limiting trips only to those that were strictly necessary; and implementing virtual meetings.

“I am proud of how Ducati’s workers are facing this difficult moment for our country.” said Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali. “My thanks go to all those who, on a daily basis and even in a difficult situation like this, are confirming the great value of a united, cohesive but also sensitive and attentive workforce.”

“For them, for their safety and for their security, measures and choices like the ones we are making are necessary and owed. However, all the support services for our customers are guaranteed, first and foremost the supply of spare parts.”

“We want to reassure Ducatisti and our dealers all over the world: we are organising ourselves to be ready for the restart and, even in this period of downtime we will not fail to provide support.”
