Fantic Motor has closed a deal that sees the Italian company buying 100% of the Motori Minarelli operation from Yamaha Motor Europe – a move that is said to strengthen the partnership between the two motorcycle manufacturers.
For those who don’t recognize the Motori Minarelli name, the Italian brand is an engine manufacturer in Bologna that made its name by specializing in small-displacement two-stroke engines for over 50 years.
Brought into the Yamaha corporate structure in 2002, Motori Minarelli now builds a whole suite of two-stroke and four-stroke, 50cc to 400cc, for scooter and motorcycle applications.
A key component to Yamaha’s European operations, under the Fantic brand, we imagine that Motori Minarelli will continue its role as engine supplier and developer, and help power Fantic’s pursuits with smaller vehicles and new product segments.
“The strengthening of the partnership with Yamaha Motor Europe and the acquisition of Motori Minarelli represent for Fantic Motor an important step to further reinforce our position as a technological leader in the production of motorcycles, e-bikes and e-mobility products in Italy,” said Mariano Roman, CEO at Fantic Motor.
“We will work together to further increase Motori Minarelli’s know how on engines and e-powertrain, widen the production range, to offer to Motori Minarelli’s customers competitive, cutting edge technology powertrains, while safeguarding the current employment levels.”
