Alpinestars Tech-Air Off-Road Brings Airbags to Rally Racers

The airbag revolution continues in the motorcycle industry, as Alpinestars has just released its Tech-Air Off-Road airbag system to professional rally-raid racers.

Used by Alpinestars-supported riders since 2018, the new consumer-facing version is being offered to all professional racers now, just ahead of the Dakar Rally mandating airbags for all of its entrants.

The “Off-Road” name is a little misleading, since Alpinestars is focusing right now on only rally-raid riding, though this latest Tech-Air system is perhaps the next step to a true consumer version that could be of benefit to ADV riders, and soon after, MX and enduro riders.

Still, with rally-raid racers facing stark dangers with their high-speed section and big jumps, the wider distribution of the Alpinestars Tech-Air Off-Road system is surely to increase the safety aspect of the sport.

As such, the Alpinestars Tech-Air Off-Road protects the back, chest, shoulders, and collarbones with its airbag in the event of a crash.

That protection is further enhanced with the integrated Bionic Pro v2 Protection, which provides additional front padding on the arms and chest.

There is no news right now on when the Alpinestars Tech-Air Off-Road will be made to non-professional riders, but we can surely bet that the airbag technology will be coming to the off-road sector in full force in the coming months or years.
