Rumor: Josh Hayes to Endurance Race at Le Mans?

If the scuttlebutt out of the FIM Endurance World Championship paddock is to be believed, AMA Pro Superbike racer Josh Hayes could be headed to Le Mans, France next week, as the American is tipped to be replacing Josh Waters in the YART squad for the final round in the Endurance Championship series.

The stout YART (Yamaha Austria Racing Team) is currently 13 points behind the venerable SERT (Suzuki Endurance Racing Team) for the Endurance World Championship title, with the 24 Hour Le Mans race being the deciding event for the top spot in the EWC.

SERT has traditionally been very strong at Le Mans, but YART has proven itself to be a team that contend head-to-head with the Suzuki powerhouse team, which is regarded each season as the team to beat on race day.

With the Hayes’ position in the team seemingly to be confirmed after the AMA Pro Racing round at New Jersey Motorsport Park, Hayes posted the following to his Twitter account when confronted with the news/rumor of his participation with YART: “Was curious. Is tentative. Have to see how NJ goes.”

As always, time will tell, but if Hayes does join the EWC circus, he will compete with fellow fish-out-of-water, Guy Martin, who will be riding with the French R2CL Suzuki team.
