Good news concerning two-time World Superbike champion Max Biaggi, as the Italian rider has been declared stable, after his supermoto training crash last Friday. Airlifted to the San Camillo Hospital, Biaggi suffered from thoracic trauma and multiple rib fractures.

Thankfully, doctors have ruled out that he suffered any spinal cord injuries, which is welcomed news after several weeks of high-profile incidents with former world champion riders.

“The condition of Max Biaggi is stationary. The rider was admitted for the prognosis of thoracic trauma with multiple bruises,” said Biaggi’s doctors in a prepared statement on Friday.

“After the findings in the Emergency Room, when the helicopter arrived from Latina at around 14.00h, he is currently being admitted to Intensive Therapy for clinical observation and monitoring as expected following major traumas.”

On Saturday, the hospital gave the following update: “radiological examinations performed during the morning showed an increase in the right pneumothorax, which led to the positioning of chest drainage.”

“The surgery was performed with the perfect outcome, whilst the vital parameters remain satisfactory. Multiparameter and radiological monitoring as well as non-invasive respiratory support procedures continue.”

Again on Sunday, the hospital gave an update on Biaggi’s continually improving condition: “vital parameters are satisfactory, multi-parameter monitoring and non-invasive supportive respiratory support procedures continue.”
