World Superbike racing is in the Czech Republic this weekend, and Cal Crutchlow has shown himself to be the man to beat at Brno. Leading through all three Superpole sessions, the British rider easily sailed into the #1 grid spot for Sunday’s races. WSBK continues to show diversity on the grid, with every manufacturer having a bike up front…except Kawasaki (only one Team Green bike made it into the second Superpole round). With Crutchlow looking for his first win, Haslam looking to make up ground on Biaggi, and BMW looking for a top-step on the podium, racing action at Brno should be good come Sunday.
Taking the second position was Max Biaggi, who continues to dominate the World Superbike Championship points. The Emperor will be followed by Johnny Rea, who just edged out Ruben Xaus for the front row. Luca Scassa was the fastest Ducati, as Xerox Ducati continues its WSBK meltdown. Fabrizio’s 7th place starting position, and Noriyuki Haga’s 15th grid spot are becoming too common of an occurrence for WSBK (Haga crashed twice in Superpole). The only thing keeping Haga in-touch with the battle for third place in the standings is his consistently mediocre results on race day.
Jakub Smrz qualified a disappointing 17th spot for his home crowd. This is likely not the result B&G Racing was looking for on their first outing with the Aprilia RSV4. Other disappointments came in the form of the absence of Troy Corser, who crashed on Friday and thought it best to sit out BMW’s race at Brno. The Motorrad flag will have to be carried by Xaus, as BMW was looking for their first win of the season at Brno.
