Owners of a 2022 model year Zero SR, SR/F or SR/S electric motorcycle will be unhappy to hear that an incorrect brake pad may have been installed in their rear caliper.
The result of this mistake is that the 45 motorcycles in question fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 122, “Motorcycle Brake System” and thus have to be recalled by Zero Motorcycles.
According to recall documents with the NHTSA, Zero Motorcycles operations personnel placed the wrong parts on the manufacturing line for the subject motorcycles.
As a result, these motorcycles were correctly assembled with the incorrect rear brake pads, which do not match current regulatory filings. Since the bikes don’t match the regulatory homologation, they need to be recalled by the manufacturer.
To remedy the issue, Zero dealers will inspect and replace the rear brake pads, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 20, 2021.
Concerned Zero SR owners may contact Zero customer service at 1-888-841-8085. Zero’s number for this recall SV-ZMC-022-018. As always, the NHTSA is also available at 1-888-327-4236 and safercar.gov.
