Base Model KTM 890 Duke Arrives Tomorrow

At 8am (PST on Tuesday), KTM will take the wraps off another of its 2021 models, this time the bike in question is the much-anticipated KTM 890 Duke street bike.

A base model offering of the already available KTM 890 Duke R, we expect the bike to have lower-spec suspension, brakes, tires, and other amenities in order to allow the Austrian brand to hit a lower price point.

What that price point will be is up for conjecture, but our spies do tell us that the KTM 890 Duke will replace the KTM 790 Duke in the US market (and likely other markets as well).

Adding fuel to that fire is the fact that the KTM 790 Duke is not listed on KTM’s website as a 2021 model.

This would leave us to believe that the KTM 890 Duke will slot in above the 790 Duke’s $10,700 price tag, possibly coming in at $11,000 or right above it.

Of note, the KTM 890 Duke R is priced right now at $11,700, though that number could get bumped up to make some more room for the base model’s addition.

Today’s news is an interesting development as the middleweight-twin category continues heats up. Recently grabbing headlines, the Aprilia Tuono 660 just debuted with a $10,500 price point and a similar set of features and specs.

With the KTM 890 Duke set to make more power than the Aprilia, the advantage seems to go to the Austrians, though pricing will surely be the deciding factor between the two bikes.

At the end of the day, the real winners will be motorcycle enthusiasts who have been looking for affordable yet potent street machines, which this segment now has no shortage of.
