While we don’t know who the second rider will be at the factory-backed Honda team next year in WorldSBK, we do know who it won’t be…and it won’t be Leon Camier.
This is because Camier is headed to a different red bike, the Ducati Panigale V4 R at Barni Racing, for the 2020 season.
Though we know that Honda is brining a full factory effort to the World Superbike Championship season next year, along with an all new Honda CBR1000RR superbike, Camier couldn’t resist the chance to be on the potent Bologna Bullet.
With Barni acting like a satellite effort to the factory Ducati Corse team, Camier can expect a high technical spec from the Panigale V4 R, and the Brit could certainly give the front-runners a scare, consider the pace we have seen from Alvaro Bautista on the bike.
This change to the Barni Racing Team will mark the sixth manufacturer that Camier has raced for in his WorldSBK career (Yamaha, Aprilia, Suzuki, BMW, & MV Agusta), and his expertise in developing motorcycles will certainly be a boon to the Ducati racing effort, as it tries to hone the Panigale V4 R into a bike that all racers can win on.
“I am very much looking forward to the new challenge in the next season,” said Camier, talking to the WorldSBK.com site. “I will use all my riding and development skills to achieve top level results together with Marco and his team.”
“They have a close relation to the factory, are a very passionate, engineering-driven group with focus on results and I believe we will work well together. Having said that, my focus now is first to finish the season as strong as possible in Qatar with my current team.”
Barni team principal Marco Barnabò added to Camier’s comment, saying: “I am very proud for the agreement that we have reached with Leon, he has shown a high appreciation for our team and he is very motivated to join us.”
“We are aware that together we can achieve good results. As every year we will have to work hard, but as always, my crew will give their maximum efforts, and I want to thank them for what they have done on the bike development so far. I also want to thank the sponsors who have supported us so far and who will be joining us in 2020 as well.”
